On day 8, we woke up early for a hotel breakfast. Scrambled eggs, bacon and croissants with Nutella! It appears most of Europe has a Nutella addiction.

After breakfast, we loaded back on the bus and rode for about 2.5 hours to Assisi. We stopped at a little shop that offered free samplings of native wines and foods. I let Clay try the strawberry wine, I thought it was delicious, he on the other hand...let's just say I don't have to worry about him being a drinker.

Italian Olive Oil and Spices |
There were also cheeses, sausages, truffles, olive oils, chocolates and spices. We also tried some of the truffle spread with cayenne pepper on a cracker. It was ok, but I am not really a fan of truffles. Clay bought a giant chocolate bar. Several people bought some oils, wine and sausage to bring home.
Assisi was the most gorgeous town I have ever visited.

We walked through the town and stopped to have a delicious lunch at Ristoranti Pizzeria Monaci. Clay and I split a lasagna and it was amazing! The others at our table had pizza.

After the meal, we went to the basilica of Assisi. We were led on the tour by one of the female resident friars. It was peaceful and gorgeous.

After a long walk back to the bus, we got more gelato....chocolate again.
We hopped back on the bus and headed towards Rome! The hotel was very modern in design but they didn't believe very much in ice or air conditioning. Tomorrow we Rome!
